What we keep, and who sees it
Last updated 12 October 2026
What we collect
When you enlist: your email address and the callsign you choose. Our list server also records when you subscribed and whether you confirmed your subscription from the email we send. Nothing else.
What we never collect
- Real names, ranks, units, employers, locations, phone numbers, or payment details.
- No accounts, no ads, and no analytics scripts.
- No third-party scripts or fonts on this site. Everything loads from hawk-ops.com.
Who sees what
- Netlify hosts this site. Like any web host, it sees your IP address when you visit a page or sign up.
- Our list server (listmonk, which we run ourselves) stores your email address and callsign. It sits behind Netlify, so it sees Netlify's addresses, not yours.
- Amazon SES (Amazon Web Services) delivers our emails, so it sees your email address and each message we send you.
- Sites we link to, such as eBird, Wikipedia, and xeno-canto, only hear from you if you click a link.
RFI briefs
When you ask for an RFI brief, our server learns only the state or territory and the month or months of your trip. Your county and exact dates stay in your browser, which filters the brief. Nothing about a request is logged, stored, or emailed; a daily counter holds a number only. Netlify sees your IP address, as it does for any page, so ask before you travel. Briefs are built from eBird data we collect on a schedule, so eBird never hears about your request. The access code is checked once and gives your open page a 2-hour pass, kept in memory, not a cookie. A saved copy is encrypted in your browser with your passphrase; it never reaches us.
Email tracking
BINTSUM emails don't track opens or clicks. There's no tracking image, every link (including unsubscribe) goes straight to where it points, and per-subscriber tracking is turned off on our list server.
One exception: issues #1 and #2 went out through our previous delivery service, Brevo, before we switched. Links in those two emails still pass through Brevo's address (r.news.hawk-ops.com), which counts clicks in its anonymized mode.
If your mail app loads the photos in an issue, it fetches them from our list server through Netlify, which sees your IP address as it would for any web page.
In your browser
This site stores one item in your browser: your light or dark theme choice. No cookies. The bot check on the signup and RFI forms runs on our own servers, not a third party's.
Leaving
Every issue has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. The page it opens lets you unsubscribe, download the data we hold about you, or delete it.
Questions
Email bintel@hawk-ops.com. ImprovMX forwards mail sent to that address, so it sees your message on the way.
